So, Control Warrior, a deck I have been fascinated by for a long time. Warriors are usually pretty aggressive so to play a control version is definitely something new. This deck started out as an experiment but I think it has earned the title of Control. This deck is a particular gem, because it is like any other deck I have ever played before. It uses cards like Archein Elite and even Hist Speaker (more on these cards later). Everything in this deck is synergized toward control and draw, and this makes for some interesting choices each turn. I actually found myself thinking about what to do more often than some of my Midrange decks!
Allright, without further ado, let’s dive into the deck.
As you can see this deck curves out at 4 and 5 mana. Hist Speaker helps a lot here. I have not included a Blood Magic Lord even though I have acces to one because I feel like it is too slow of a card. Even in this Control deck I feel like I would just lose the game if I waste turn 9 playing BML.
The different purposes of this deck
This is a Control deck, not an aggro but also not a heavy Control deck. No this deck is a unique one. Control the board until you are ahead on board and on cards and go face, all the while keeping control of the board. I don’t recommend going face recklessly, since this deck needs some time to build up (I have put Restless Templar in here for a reason!).
You basically want to use Hist Speaker either to get a minion or a spell out on the turn after, or to activate Preserver of the Root. This will give you a huge advantage since you basically played a card a turn or 2 (if you have the ring) early. You basically want to push out your heavy minions early if you can, if not, then you can play them as normal.
Type of deck
This deck is a ramp-ish, control styled deck. You want to have board control and you don’t want to go face too much; At least not in the early turns. The deck is heavily benefiting off small board advantages by dropping heavy minions on curve or even before. This, together with smart, efficient trades, allows you to gain board control and dominate the game.
